WAX PLAY 101
ABOUT THE CANDLES Careful, not all candles are suited for wax play. Decorative candles often contain additives, which makes it difficult to control the temperature. In general, you should look for an odorless, paraffin wax. Atelier Wolfling candles are made from soy wax, which keeps a low to moderate temperature and doesn’t disrupt the skin barrier. You can order candles in three temperature levels: level two at 55°-56°, level three at 61°-62° and level four at 65°-66°. PREPARATION Always test the wax on your own body first before playing with someone else. The outside of your arm can be a good place to start. Wax can be difficult to get out of textile: so take your clothes off, and prepare a sheet you don’t mind getting stains on. Optional: rub your body with oil first. This protects the skin and makes it easier to get the wax of later. It can also be a fun way to relax into the experience, and – if you use heated oil – a way to prepare the body for heat. PLAY Start with the back (the heat will feel less intense here) and avoid the face. Be careful not to drip any wax on hairy body parts, as it can be difficult to get out. The higher you lift the candle away from the body, the cooler the wax will feel. Multiple drips in the same spot are going to feel hotter each time as the skin reddens. Use a butterknife and a tissue soaked in oil to remove the wax from the body afterwards.
